Mastic resin, or medical gum, is extracted from The Tree Pistacia lentiscus, which thrive in the Mediterranean countries. The main producer is the island of Chios, Greece. Mastic resin has been used since ancient times. The healing properties of the mastic resin are described by Hippocrates, Galen and Pedanius Dioscorides.
