 Horse chestnut or also known as Wild Chestnut has venotonic, anti-inflammatory, capillary strengthening and analgesic effects. Horse chestnut owes its properties to natural substances in its composition, but mostly to the unique compounds esculin and escin. The esculin found in horse chestnut has the properties to increase the resistance of capillaries and erythrocytes and to act on the colloidal components of the cell boundary surfaces, especially those of the venous system. Escin in horse chestnut lowers blood viscosity, ie. controls the formation of thrombi (clots) and has a capillary strengthening effect. Horse chestnut extract strengthens the venous wall, makes it more elastic and healthy, also reduces its permeability. Horse chestnut is also famous for its richness of tannins, saponins, proteins, flavonoids - quercetin and kaempferol, coumarins, tannins, tannins, tannins B1, C and K, potassium, sodium, magnesium, phosphorus.
