Bearberry preparations have an antiseptic and diuretic effect. They are used in inflammatory diseases of the kidneys and urinary tract. The main indications for use are cystitis, urethritis, pyelitis of the kidneys. A more active effect of preparations is manifested by an alkaline reaction to urine. Bear grapes are the main ingredient of diuretic teas.
The disinfecting effect of Bearberry on the kidneys and mainly on the bladder and urinary tract has long been known.In folk medicine, it is used as a disinfectant in various diseases of the kidneys and bladder, as well as in cough and especially in chronic diarrhea, which is not surprising, since the leaves of some grapes contain a lot of tannins that "fix" the intestines.
Plant preparations have antiseptic, astringent, anti-inflammatory, analgesic and choleretic action.
Bearberry is a known diuretic and anti-inflammatory agent in the treatment of diseases of the bladder, urinary tract and urolithiasis.
Its antimicrobial properties are related to arbutin and methylarbutin. These substances under the influence of enzymes break down hydroquinone, which has an antiseptic effect. However, with prolonged use of large doses of Bearberry can be observed increased irritation of the mucous membrane of the excretory system and exacerbation of inflammatory phenomena.
