PRODUCT INFORMATION

Due to its many active ingredients, yarrow is widely used in medicine. It has antispasmodic, gas-repellent, anti-inflammatory and antiparasitic effects (it is able to deal with intestinal worms). These qualities are mainly due to the essential oil in the herb.

In folk medicine it is used to reduce fever and is often taken at the beginning of infections such as colds and flu, combined with elderberry or mint. It can help separate secretions from the airways.

Yarrow is a diuretic, lowers blood pressure and affects heart rate. It also regulates blood circulation by dilating narrowed blood vessels and constricting over-dilated ones. For this reason it is prescribed for varicose veins and ulcers, venous stasis, phlebitis and hemorrhoids. It is also used to relieve digestive problems, including stomach pain, intestinal inflammation, constipation and flatulence.

The plant is traditionally used to relieve pain during uterine contractions during menstruation and childbirth. Taken regularly in small doses, it can regulate the menstrual cycle, especially in cases of scanty or irregular menstruation.

Applied externally, its anti-inflammatory action relieves rheumatic pain.

Precautions:

- Yarrow can cause contact allergies, especially in people who are hypersensitive to other members of the family Compositae such as echinacea and chamomile.
- The herb is not recommended for pregnant women or nursing mothers.
- Excessive sun exposure is not desirable because the plant can provoke hypersensitivity to light.
- High doses can cause dizziness and headaches.

Method of preparation:

1 tablespoon of the herb is poured with 400 ml. boiling water and boil for 3 minutes. Leave to soak for 30 minutes. The strained extract is taken in 3 equal parts during the day.
