Wood betony herb
Application: internal - for gastrointestinal colic, against diarrhea, headache, nervous tension, fear neuroneurosis, neuralgia, dizziness, epilepsy. It is also used in inflammation of the respiratory tract, inflammation of the kidneys and urinary tract. The herb has regenerative, antispasmodic, appetite stimulating and sedative effects.
Externally: for wounds, ulcers, sore throat, inflammation of the oral cavity, rheumatism.
The herb is also called thistle or haidouk herb. Its Latin name is Herba Betonica Officinalis.
Description: Perennial herbaceous plant, stem with turned down hard hairs, up to 60 cm high, opposite leaves, purple-red flowers, dried fruit, consisting of 4 nuts. Blooms June - September.
Chemical composition: Tannins and bitter substances, betaines - betonicin and turicin, choline, a little essential oil, saponins, resinous substances, significant amounts of mineral salts, organic acids and carotene.
Preparation: 1 soup. spoon of the herb is poured with 1/2 liter of boiling water and boiled for 5 minutes.
Usage: internally - 150 ml 3 times daily before meals. Externally: in the form of paws.
Note: the herb in larger doses is poisonous. Admission should be done only on prescription!
