The herb is also called bitter grass, male gentian or shotgun. The Latin name is Herba Gentianae cruciatae.
Description: Perennial herb with thick, vertical rhizome. Stems up to 60 cm tall, ascending, unbranched. Leaves back ovate or lanceolate, with 3 veins, on the tip dull. The colors are reversed in the bosom of the top leaves, blue - green. Blooms July - August.
Chemical composition: Contains bitter glycosides with sequiridoid structure, xanthones, di and trisaccharides, pectin mucus, fatty oil, tannins, essential oil, pyridine alkaloids and others.
Application: internally: in case of indigestion, indigestion (intensifies the excretion of stomach bile juice), temperature, colic, constipation, fatigue, anemia, hepatitis, worms. It has an appetite-stimulating, generous, tonic, and immunosuppressive action. External is used for infected wounds.
Usage: internally: in the form of a decoction of 1 cup of coffee 1/2 hour before meals 3 times a day. External for flushing.
Preparation: 1 teaspoon of herb is poured with 1/2 liter of water, boil for 5 minutes. The same infusion is also used for flushing.
